It's been a while since I last "blogged." Things have been in full swing since I was last on. I have three days of Art Classes with the 90 students and two children who have joined my family five days a week. Between Art Club, Dance Class and Drama...there isn't much time left over just to veg. But somehow we still found time to make it to the Museum two weeks ago. I took four kids with me to see the artwork by Frederick Remington and we had to go through the Asian Art Exhibit to get there, and it was WORTH it. If you haven't been, GO, before it's gone(Oct 21). The kids and I stood slack jaw in front of the giant doll in exhibit installation 4. It was incredible! They had such a good time and begged to be brought back, so we may go there again next month before the exhibit closes.
While we were there, we saw the Deconstructive Exhibit in the Caroline Weiss Law building and they had a great spot in the north corner where the kids could create their own "shapely" art on the walls with magnetic triangles. If you have children, or are still a child at heart, you'll enjoy this activity.
Today, I organized a school field trip with families to go to the Bayou Wildlife Park in Alvin. 30 of us rode together in a tram and were treated to a Safari ride where we fed emus, ostrich, deer, water buffalo, and zebras and an array of other creatures. They had a small petting zoo of mostly baby goats and a giant sleeping pig, and free pony rides for the little ones. We took our sketch-pads and cameras and the kids were sketching on the tram when they weren't busy feeding the animals.
The kids are very excited about the next couple of weeks when Rosemarie Moore will be coming to our school to give a workshop in watercolor landscapes to the Art Club and Art Society.

It's been such a fun month, I'm not sure if I'll be able to top it in October. I'm thinking of taking the group to the Orange Show... but it doesn't last long, so maybe a visit to the Menil on the same day... Any Ideas?

Isn't that Asian exhibit at the MFA awesome!!
After seeing, Red Hot I got re-excited about Pop Art,
The level of societal consumerism and futurist mentality. Most impacting to me were the giant feet walking out of the ceiling and the floating cell phones inadvertantly emulating Magritte a bit.
