Portal to Houston's Art Community

Max Boyd Harrison is a fabulous artist and gallery owner, and one I consider a close friend. He's always got something up his sleeve and something great going on in his gallery. I can say "impartially," that his gallery is a must stop every time I go into Houston. Where else can you find a place where your own child can create artwork on the floor among the most celebrated local artists, amid hopefuls, neophytes and masterworks.

Adding to this wonderful diversity, Max has also partnered with designer Kelly Gale Amen and the City of Houston to sponsor the outcomes of the second annual "PAINT DAY IN THE PARK." Children of all ages, some artists themselves have been invited to be creative in a massive group project wherein the kids get to play with paint-even if it means getting it all over themselves in the process on 2-3 10 x12 foot canvases.

After the large canvases have dried, they will be cut up and each piece given separately to one of 24 local artists to have the "finishing touches" put on. Aimi Dunn and I were lucky enough to be invited into this group, and I can tell you, the experience has been wonderful.

The sum of our collaborative efforts will be on display at M2 Gallery and at Bering & James Gallery on August 16, 2007 and a portion of the sales will benefit the Zina Garrison All-Court Tennis Academy.

I hope you can all make it out to see the work.

Tell me if you were invited to do this too!
