I thought I should add a post about whats been happening lately. Not sure if I droned on about it in my blog or not, but I lost my job at the end of last summer. I wasn't making much, so I had virtually no savings and could barely cover my bills. I was job hunting online and going to interviews. I was starting to really worry. Friends and family loaned or donated money to me to help me out when the well was running dry. It wasn't a lot of money, but I sold some art, and it really helped out. Tha…

An October Art event at our studios is in the works. It will be on Saturday Oct. 24th. in the afternoon. There will be food and drink, live music- and plenty of art on display for sale. I will post more details and a flier as soon as I know more. I invite people to come out and meet the artists at our studios! In the meantime I'm staying busy with other projects.
Last Thursday I went to an Artful Thursdays event at the MFAH. I saw a preview of an entertaining and charming documentary about an o…

I apologize but this post is way off the topic of art. It is an important one. Its about avoiding scams and not losing your hard earned money to rip off artists. Many people out there are having a difficult time making ends meet- especially if they have expenses and may have lost their jobs. In such circumstances that create emotional stress and a sense of uncertainty about one's future- its easy to fall prey to easy money and get rich quick schemes. Most of us would like to think that we are sm…

Well it's been a while since my last blog post.- Fourth of July Weekend to be exact! I do have some news- good and bad. Well, I may as well get the bad news out of the way so that I may end this entry on a positive note. So don't tell me I didn't warn you- Bad news first!
The first one's a big one- I lost my job a couple of weeks ago. I'm filing for unemployment, posting my resume, doing interviews, but its slow going. A few friends offered to help me by putting in a good word where they work f…

I'm celebrating Independance Day with a lazy day off of work and some beer, hotdogs, and fireworks with friends later on. It's nice to have a day to be proud of the country you live in. It is a large and diversely beautiful nation. There may be problems here, and at times things are far from perfect. We enjoy a relatively high degree of freedoms, civil rights, equal opportunity, and abundance.- but if we are not careful we can lose what we hold dear- and we still have a lot of room for improveme…

Hey everyone!
Just thought Id let you know that I am starting up life drawing sessions again. I open my studio to artists with a serious interest in rendering the human form, and reliable models who dont mind holding a pose. This time around I am scheduling them for Sundays. For now the sessions will be in the evening from 7 ish to 11 ish pm. Best to show up before 8pm to allow time to set up and settle in and to make the most of the time. The posing time is approx 3 hrs with breaks so the sessi…

I havent posted anything new to my page in quite a while- but I just thought I'd let everyone out there know that I am still around. In January I participated in an art show that my neighbor, Joe Carillo, organized for our building. The event was quite a success. We had a great turn out, artists got to show off their artwork,- and sell some, do some networking, and promote themselves. We has a great time with the crowd, the live music, and not to mention the food and drink that was sampled! Some…

I just added some photos to my albums. I put up some recent drawings from last week and some fliers for the January 10th art show we will be having at my building. We would like for as many people as possible to attend so check out the fliers and be sure to share them with your friends. How about that snow flurry we had today? It snowed on Christmas Eve, 2004 I think, and they say it only snowed in December in Houston something like 10 years before that. I wasn't aware that it had been snowin…

Well It looks like a blog post from me is long overdue. As always, I've been drawing whenever I can. Last weekend we did the Art Crawl. That was a lot of fun- I got to display a lot of new artwork, see some great art from others in my community, and talk to some interesting people. Events like this force me to stay on top of my studio and be better about having it somewhat clean, organized, and presentable. Someone actually said that they would like to put photos of my studio on ApartmentTherapy…

Last time I did a blog post, I assumed I had more time and energy than I did. Short version is that I said I would upload new work before the weekend was up. Well, I didn't get to, and that was a couple of weeks ago. The past few days I actually found the time to organize recent work, charge up batteries, take photos and edit them! So now I have a few dozen new drawings that I did in the past couple of months to share! That being said I still have to upload them. My ancient computer with a small…

This is just a quick update. I havent been very active on here in the past few weeks or so on account of the disruption in routine caused by the hurricane. I am not mentioning the storm by name here because I have always thought of naming storms as a peculiar concept. By giving them a name we give them a 'life' and more importance in our psyches than I think is deserved. Its not your friend or enemy. Its not a person or living thing.- Its a
weather phenomenon. It may be a severe form of w…

I recently played with the look of my profile page- new colors and new background image. I just finished uploading a few new drawings I did last Thursday. I developed them further and then photographed and dumped them into my hard drive this evening. I also recently organized them by model using the 'albums' feature. Check out my recent photos or browse the albums. My latest drawings are in albums for Bobby, Faith, and Christine. So I have the drawings I did in August that I wanted to share post…

This is just a quick note to let everyone know I just uploaded a few drawings I did over the past 2 weeks. As always I did these during my life drawing session at my studio. I hire a model each Thursday evening from 7:30 to 11:00 pm. I do this every thurday that I can barring extreme weather or holidays. A few friends of mine came out to draw this past two weeks, and we got some good drawings done, so it was a success. I wish more people could make it out to draw. Anyway, I posted some new drawi…

Well its been a couple of weeks or so since I made a blog entry. I've done some drawings since then from 3 different models. I just recently uploaded a few dozen photos of my latest drawings into my photo section. Which reminds me, I have been working on organizing all of my images into albums by subject so that I can find them easier and so that visitors have an alternate way of browsing. I can still view them as a slide show or view all of the photos without having to use albums. I love all th…

My life drawing sessions are going well. Last night was great! I don't have as many people as I would like, but I get regulars, and word of mouth seems to work as well as any ads or fliers. I have some good models who are dependable. They are easy to work with, are good at suggesting poses and are open to suggestions. (that way all the drawings don't feel the same) I have one male model, but I need to find a couple more. Right now I only barely have the money to hire models once a week. So that…

I finally added a bunch of my recent drawings from the past month or so to my photos section. I did most of these at my studio. Each week I hire a model and invite people over to draw. I have life drawing sessions on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 10:30. at 2300 McKinney, 4th floor. There is a $10 model fee. Olivia recently made up some flyers for me- I'll post an image of that soon. Anyone on the Arts Houston community pages who has a serious interest in figurative work is invited to attend my…

I did some drawing last week. I also participated in Olivia and Brian's Super Happy Funland auction event at Notsuoh last Friday. I was there with Elisabeth and Jeff, two neighbors of mine. Liz is a talented artist and Ive known her a few years now. I donated a few small drawings to Olivia to auction. They are raising money to pay for city permits. Im sure there will be other events like this to help them raise money. She recently sewed a pegasus/unicorn (pegicorn?) for me. I bought it from her…

On the weekend of June 15th, I went to a You Tube gathering. It was an impromptu event & only a month or so to plan for it. It wasn't a huge event, but I got to meet a few online video makers from around the country. All of which were talented comedians, story tellers, musicians, artists, and video makers. It was kind of fun, and I was able to flyer the Art Climb event and promote my Arts Houston page. I took some videos of the event and I will post them as soon as I have some video compress…
