There are lots of us film and darkroom folks still around.. some setups are temporary darkrooms in a bathroom or closet.

There are none. Equipment is dirt cheap, if not free, these days-- might try setting up your own.

I'm drawn to this as well.

Featured Artist

Hey cool! I'm gonna be the "Featured Artist"!! Check out the Urban Life group show at Three Allen Center, Nove 3- Jan. 9.

I'll have some of my Holga shots.... sort of "Urban Life Looking Skyward"..... really minimalist. I love these images and plan to add so many more to the series. All done on film, printed on photo paper in my darkroom.

Politics, caucus, and voting

So I did my civic duty (and earned my bitching rights) by voting in the primaries. Brought #3 child along--so he could witness democracy in action.

I decided to go back in the evening for the caucus (with #4 in tow to also witness history) . OMG!!! Imagine my surprise when I show up, in rural Montgomery County, to find that I AM NOT THE ONLY DEMOCRAT IN THIS COUNTY!!!!

OK, so that's an exaggeration. But, god, how I've felt so alone out here.

Until now.

There were about 50 others gathered at… Continue

First Day of School

Great day! I am sure the students aren't so thrilled with it. Oh well... wait 'til Wednesday.....I guaranteed them the most tedious, boring lecture of thier lives!! LOL! Exposure-aperture-shutter-ISO. Dry stuff, but necessary. Once they are actually creating something, seeing for themselves the magic of the darkroom, many will fall in love with good ol' fashion photography as well.

No, there aren't! I love digital, but I enjoy producing my own images in a lab. Digital is quick to use on vacations, but when I have more time for creativity, I pull out the old Canon. So many people no longer use film, which I think is sad because that IS photography. I know digital does basically the same things, just differently, but I love the old style:)

So this is my new project. I'm photographing people who have had some one close to them pass away in the last year. If you know anyone who might be interested and open to this project, please feel free to let them know my contact info.

How are you doing? Going to the August HCP?

Well I think you should go to the one in August! It was very informal, all different types of interest there. Some people had a complete body of work, but most had things in progress. I was afraid it would be all gear-talk and that kind of freaks me out. But it wasn't that way. People talked a lot about plans and visions for their work. It was good and fun. Some people had only a couple images, so I think you should just bring what you have in August. The facilitator seems really nice and had helpful comments as well.

Well I went to the HCP portfolio night Tuesday. You should bring your work and check it out. Actually it was interesting and overall a good experience. I'll probably go back. It got me thinking a little. I think I'm getting ready to shoot again. A little nervous, but I think I'm in the right frame of mind.

How are classes btw? You got things lined up for the Fall?

Well congrats! I am in KC right now finishing the graduation. When I get back Monday I will own my life again! I am teaching, but a light load.

I am finally ready to go back to photography I think.

I had an idea this week for how to move forward. I will continue to focus on portraits, but in a new way. Should be cool. Though after that craigslist killing, I'll have to become more social and careful in my selections.

So what are the big plans for the summer?

I am considering finally going down to HCP, next week...? Have you been yet?

Hey, I just saw your post from January in the Film Photographers' group (as just found out there was such a group...)

Is there still talk of a film only show? I'm still brand new to Houston, but I'd love to be involved if such a beast will take place.
