Hi Friend:

I hope your day is going well for you. I ran across some cool software that I think you'll be interested in and can help you hide folders and files on your computer. This can come in real handy when you have sensitive files that you want to keep private from prying eyes. Use Hide Those Folders software to keep private files from being viewed by children, employers, employees, and even hackers!

Hide Those Folders will hide your sensitive files and folders so that they can't be seen or accessed. Files stay hidden even if you turn on "View Hidden Files" Even links in your recent documents menu won't be able to find your hidden files or hidden folders.

The best part is that Hide Those Folders offers a FREE "Try Before You Buy" trial.

Hi Julia!

Thanks for your interest in being a part of Artomatic - and believe me, your participation will be meaningful whether it's as a volunteer or as an exhibitor or both. The best way to describe it, at least based upon what little I've seen in Houston, is to say it's a bit like the Westheimer Block Party meets the Art Car Parade meets a huge month-long non-juried art show, bringing together both well-known and unknown artists, performers, musicians, etc. The lack of boundaries is what makes it such a unique experience. In Toledo's case, we (unintentionally) added an extra dimension of saving vacant historic buildings in the process, when the empty building we used for the main show location sparked the interest of a buyer and was saved afterward... now, every year, Toledo's Artomatic is held in a historic space that is temporarily "donated" by the owner so as to get some potential renters/buyers to take notice. This might be a nice prospect for Houston, too, as I've noticed a strong preservation movement in town. So, that might help with space selection.

The central location for our Artomatic included the main space for the visual art show, along with two performance stages for musicians, theater groups, stand-up comics, etc. In order to offset some of the costs of everything, we divvied up the building into exhibit spaces costing $30 for the month (although we did make exceptions for some artists who weren't able to pay the fee). Artists were free to display work within their space as they wished - provided it wasn't permanently destructive to the building, or unsafe.

The first weekend of the show was kicked off by an event called Arti Gras, starting with a parade full of art cars, roller derby girls, and so forth, and kicking off a block party of sorts with interactive "art stops" (for example, a kids' painting station) and involving businesses on that street - bars and restaurants, art galleries, and so forth. In Houston's case, it might be preferable to not limit this to just the initial weekend, but that would depend upon both funding and response from business owners.

This is really just a very general overview, but hopefully it answers some of your questions. I have a tentative date of fall 2009, but I have to take a closer look at how the other major art events are scheduled during the year so as not to interfere with any of those. Once I hear back a bit more from DC and Toledo, I'll be holding an initial organization meeting/brainstorming session so we can figure out what committees we will need and bounce ideas off of each other.

My Daughter is having a one-day one-woman show in New York!

Today I received an invitation from my daughter, Marlo, who is having a one-day one woman show in New York on May 8. Unfortunately, I recently had neck surgery and will not be able to travel on an airplane for several more weeks as I am still in a soft neck ring...so I shall miss this opportunity to be of support. I am really having a problem with it - I know she understands and does not want me to travel until my neck is healthy but somehow I can't seem to feel good about missing her show - she… Continue
