My home is now Houston, Texas, but I am originally from Havana Cuba where I studied art and architecture. From 1963-1968, I studied in the most important school of art in Cuba, and one of the most prestigious academies of Art in Latin America,The High School of the Plastic Arts: Saint Alexander founded in the 1920. Later;between 1968-1977, I worked as a mechanical and architectural draftsman, and was the set designer for the National Theater of Cuba. In 1978,earned the Accredited Bachelor Degree of Industrial Design Departmment of Superior Education, Havana. Subsequently, I worked on several important projects remodeling Colonial Havana. I also designed a vocational laboratory of architecture for the elite V.I. Lenin Vocational High School. Between 1982-1986, I participated in art competitions for U.N.E.S.C.O. and designed the setting for several celebrated international exhibitions in Havana.
Now here in Houston Texas,my artistic juices are once more flowing...
I travel in the fascinating world of line, space and form; to gather those elements into a cohesive image in order to gladden, to surprise, to perplex, to cause reflection and sometimes to shock and incite. I want to create an experience of discovery, finding new conections between disparate objects and themes.
For me, drawing is the exquisite combination of technique and imagination, reality and fantasy. I love the line. I love the rhythmic movement created by the line and work to reveal the forms created by the line in space.
At this time,I choose to work primarily in black & white in honor and memory of the tragic daily loss of life incurred in this war.
In my work the observer has the opportunity to participate in the exploration of the complex mechanism of the human being. In my drawings, I explore images that reveal reverence for the past juxtaposed with images that reflect the present and suggest the somewhat disturbing future.
Welcome to my world of line and space, and let me know what you think!
