I added a comment to your art should be edible topic, hope you don't mind. Also I am not much of a writer these days, so I hope it made sense. I think your work and ideas are very interesting though, unlike anything I've seen. I admire your ability to create your own unique style.

In Between

In between. It's a strange place that we all find ourselves in from time to time.

Over the last year I have worked feverishly to finish a series of works for my gallery. Got them all done on schedule and the showing went very well. Now I find myself in one of those "in between" times.

Creating art for me is an interesting process. There's the inital spark, the idea, and it's usually like a thunderbolt. I get really excited and make all sorts of sketches and doodles, working out the idea and se… Continue

The Fairy Tale

This is a story every artist knows by heart. I have no idea where it originated or why deep inside many of us still expect it.

There's this artist. He's moody and gifted and surrounds himself with works that he has created out of his passion for beauty. One day he has a visitor to his studio and they are amazed at his work and they offer him a one-man show. Instant success!

There are, of course, uncountable variations on this story. But it always seems to boil down to the rags-to-riches formul… Continue

Thick Skinned

Attitudes and criticisms about art and performance are an ongoing part of any creative personal development. If you've ever hung a painting in a gallery or walked out to greet your fans after a performance onstage you know how valuable these times can be.

Recently I have seen several bulletins posted on MySpace and other artistic communities where artists present a new work that they have recently finished or works that are in progress. Some simply invite you to visit their page and look. Other… Continue

Art Should Be Edible

Salvador Dali said that. He may have been more right than he knew. Of course, Dali was no stranger to the idea of appropriating the works of other for inclusion in his own paintings and drawings. There is the Angelus by Millet, for example, which appears numerous times over the course of his career.

He wasn't alone in the idea of selective borrowing, although as artists we like to call it "reinterpretation." It goes back to the Han and Qu'in dynasties of China where artisans were called upon as… Continue
