Profile Information

Hometown:
Houston, TX by way of Toledo, OH
Relationship Status:
In a Relationship
About Me:
I'm new here from Toledo, Ohio - a city with a huge arts community. I was the art director and senior designer for the local alternative weekly, and involved with the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo and several independent art, music and performance groups. I'm trying to find my niche within the Houston art scene, so please be patient with me while I'm catching up!

I'm already ambitious enough - or maybe unbalanced enough - to undertake a major project here, so check my Artomatic blog if you're interested in knowing more about it.

By the way, I promise to customize my profile pretty soon. Being a web and graphic designer, I feel like a real chach using a default template.
Favorite Artists/Performers:
It's hard to really name many favorites yet from the Houston area. In general, Chuck Close, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Chiho Aoshima, Tamara de Lempicka, Dustin Hostetler, Chris Lyons, Wim Wenders, Helen Kane, Joel Washing, John Lennon and my father.
Favorite Visual Art Spaces:
I'm still learning about all this... so far, I've been impressed with everything I've seen, as I tend to hang out in the "underground." I can tell you one thing, the Toledo Museum of Art - despite being one of the best museums in the nation - is waaaaay more conservative than MFAH. (To its detriment, of course.)

The Beer Can House brings me indescribable joy.
Favorite Performing Art Spaces:
I miss Super Happy Fun Land...

Amanda K. Wolfe

My last title was meant to be self-deprecatingly snarky, but sounded sarcastic instead, so I'm changing it.

Okay, all... if you haven't read my prior blog, and are interested in being a part of a large visual/performance/etc. festival put on by artists, for artists, please read it. I just received word from the founders of the Artomatic "brand" in Washington DC that a Houston Artomatic would be a great idea. So, instead of being an idiot with a dream, I'm now an idiot with a dream and actual backing and guidance from those who first conceived the concept. If you have any desire for involvement, please… Continue

Artomatic, anyone?

Hi, several hundred strangers.

There's a festival I'm trying to bring to Houston. It began in DC, then sprouted up in my hometown of Toledo, Ohio, and as the original intent was to spread the "brand" to other cities, Houston looks to be an ideal location for its third incarnation. One of the reasons this city is so ideal for Artomatic is because not only is there a greater investment in the arts here than in most other cities (it may not seem that way to the natives, but it's true), but also be… Continue

LIVING ART @ KPFT needs your help!

KPFT’s Spring Membership Drive is upon us, and we’re asking for the support of all the CULTURAL ART lovers we can find. As I’m sure you probably know, a full 90% of KPFT’s budget comes directly from our listeners. Member contributions really are the largest and most important source of income for KPFT.

Each fund drive every program on KPFT is given a financial and new member goal. LIVING ARTS has struggled in both areas recently, and we need to send a clear signal to management that there is indeed support for this program.

The below statement from KPFT's Program Director, Ernesto Aguilar, reflects the seriousness of the success of all programmers in achieving their goals.

"As Pacifica continues to struggle financially in a down economy, every program's fund drive performance is being reviewed by me as well as Program Council. I will be upfront in saying we are looking to bring in new programs to draw listener interest as times get tougher, and one of the major criteria for finding spots for new stuff is finding places where current programming has consistent declines/missed goals or flat numbers."

If you love the cultural arts, we need your support.

If you enjoy interviews with current cultural arts events and artists, curators, film makers, architects, writers, actors, poets, musicians, etc, we need your support.
If you enjoy the most extensive cultural arts scene you’re going to find in our area, we need your support.
If you enjoy live studio performances and interviews, we need your support.
We will have three opportunities to meet our goals. The first will be this Friday, May 8th, then on Friday, May 15th, and then again on Friday, May 22th.

Please call in your pledge of support between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. FRIDAY during the LIVING ART show. The number for pledge central is (713) 526-5738.

Important note … when you call in a pledge, it is credited to whatever show is on at the time it is received. The only exception is pledging on line,www.kpft.org, where you can designate your pledge to a particular show.
If you are currently a member and it is time to renew your membership or if your membership is about to expire, we would appreciate your calling in your pledge during LIVING ART.
If your membership is up-to-date and you would simply like to help us get a little closer to our goal, we would appreciate your support.
If you are financially unable to pledge at this time, we certainly understand and do not wish to cause any undue hardship to any of our friends and listeners, but if you are able to pledge, any and all amounts are appreciated.
Call your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers and encourage them to become a member of KPFT and help us keep the arts and our free community radio of 30 years alive.

Thank you for your support!

Yo Amanda .. long time .. I was just googling some people (still cannot find Paul), and found you here. Your art looks great. I can see some German expressionism in there. You on Facebook? If so add me: aaron.west at gmail.

I long ago came to the realization that we do not travel in circles. Oh no, we travel in ever increasingly small and complicated pretzels.

Nice to meet you!

HEY WOLFE,

IT'S COOL ABOUT TODAY; NO WORRIES. I ENDED UP NOT BEING AVAILABLE EITHER. I DELIVERED WORKS TO WINTER STREET [SHELLEY SHANKS STUDIO] FOR AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL EVENT; THEN HAD SOME ERRANDS TO RUN; THEN PICKED UP MY WORK FROM XNIHILO GALLERY [DUNE TENCER AND I (THE DOUBLE-Ds) HAD A GREAT CONVERSATION; SHE'S ALSO A MEMBER HERE]

I DID NOT HAVE THE CHANCE OR TIME TO GET OVER TO THE MFAH TODAY. SO, YEAH, NEXT WEEK TURNS OUT BETTER
