Try not to stress, I know where you are, I'm there right now too. I am deciding what I can do this year to switch it around. I'm rearranging my desk and the student desks so that they all face me. I am trying to use slide shows and presentations more this year, and this will allow them to see what I'm doing better.
I'm going crazy with last minute newsletters for the start of term. I have two art clubs that I'm doing after hours and a drama club too... I know, I'm nuts. But the kids get so much out of it, that I can't help myself. We're planning a field trip to the MFAH the first week to view the works of Remington as prep for Rodeo Art. Every year I plan to do Rodeo Art first and get it out of the way, but I always get sidetracked and then it's a race to finish before Christmas. This year, I'm determined to get it done first. A cool thing with the art clubs is that I get to invite local artists to give presentations or workshops for the students. I've already got Rosemarie Moore signed up for September, anyone else interested in coming out to play?

A fieldtrip in the first week! How cool is that. I'm sure your students will love all the clubs and extra preparation, even if they don't know exactly what you've done to prepare....
I'm overboard again, but luckily I have until Monday, I'll probably need it. The walls are half painted, our dept. has to turn in lesson plans by tomorrow as well as an action plan, and other stuff. All I want to do is play and make my room organized and pretty.
We'll be doing a poety/writing published book this year, maybe an art car, as many as 6 murals around school, reparing and creating sculptures for the gounds of the campus, and I think that's all.
We're more than half way through the year and we had a couple things go differently:
The students have been misbehaving a bit, and I'm not any better at controlling it and don't really mind it.
We had more than 12 art college visits this year, not including one campus visit, a spontaneous open house and local as well as national schools.
I think I turned a few students into college students by virtue of the college visits and student contests.
The literary magazine still hasn't had much energy, including mine
Half of the students served in the Visual Arts dept on campus are not Visual Art students.
I'm tired tonight, but like what I do.
AP art history rocks.
