ART TEACHERS NEEDED!

City ArtWorks, a non-profit arts education organization, is looking for art instructors to teach our signature Art After School program for students in elementary and middle schools. You must have an art background, enjoy teaching art concepts and techniques, and love working with children. Experience teaching art is preferred but not required.

Art After School is a curriculum-based program that is taught during the spring and fall school semester. The program encourages creative problem solving, helps develop critical thinking skills, and exposes children to visual arts concepts and history. Each semester, the curriculum changes and focuses on a famous artist or art period. The lesson plans are age-appropriate and allow students to create works in painting, drawing, printing, three-dimensional construction and other media.

All art supplies, curriculum, and lesson plans are provided by City ArtWorks. Classes are taught on school premises or at community centers for one hour a week after school dismissal time. City ArtWorks teaches Art After School in 70+ schools in 8 school districts in the greater Houston area. City ArtWorks’ instructors also teach art in twelve low-income apartment complexes in Houston.

Interested applicants must make at least a nine-week commitment for one hour a week, and attend a mandatory one-day teacher workshop prior to teaching the semester-based program. Applicants must complete an application and background check. Upon hire, the instructor will be an independent contractor for City ArtWorks and will be compensated on an hourly basis plus allowable expenses and mileage. Starting wage is negotiable.

To apply, please call City ArtWorks at (713) 681-1331. For more information, please visit our website at www.cityartworks.org.

Do you know if there might be any paid positions happening in the future?

I want to take my early retirement next year and will probably need a bunch of part-time things to get by.

I am working with the unschooling cooperative, The Real School, and wanted to find out if anyone is interested in volunteering some time and/or expertise this summer in teaching the kids (5-13) some different techniques to express themselves. Thanks in advance for your consideration! Peace.
