Portal to Houston's Art Community

Teillard de Chardin proposed that there is an interconnected web of thougth that informs all beings on the planet. If we make the world with our thoughts, it makes sense to imagine what we would like to live! As this , the first post on this group discussion, it is appropriate perhaps to acknowledge the noosphere as the first "cyberspace" mechanism of which artshouston.ning.com is a more recent component. Artwork, music, radio waves and other stimulae are part and parcel of what we now refer to as "cyberspace." In our modern techno culture, it can be easy to forget this "ancient" technology. I encourage one and all to listen to KPFT and to tell your friends. Through awareness of issues, we can direct our energies towards creating a world of compassion and creativity! Peace-

LIVING ART @ KPFT needs your help!

KPFT’s Spring Membership Drive is upon us, and we’re asking for the support of all the blues lovers we can find. As I’m sure you probably know, a full 90% of KPFT’s budget comes directly from our listeners. Member contributions really are the largest and most important source of income for KPFT.

Each fund drive every program on KPFT is given a financial and new member goal. LIVING ARTS has struggled in both areas recently, and we need to send a clear signal to management that there is indeed support for this program.

The below statement from KPFT's Program Director, Ernesto Aguilar, reflects the seriousness of the success of all programmers in achieving their goals.

"As Pacifica continues to struggle financially in a down economy, every program's fund drive performance is being reviewed by me as well as Program Council. I will be upfront in saying we are looking to bring in new programs to draw listener interest as times get tougher, and one of the major criteria for finding spots for new stuff is finding places where current programming has consistent declines/missed goals or flat numbers."

If you love the cultural arts, we need your support.

If you enjoy interviews with current cultural arts events and artists, curators, film makers, architects, writers, actors, poets, musicians, etc, we need your support.
If you enjoy the most extensive cultural arts scene you’re going to find in our area, we need your support.
If you enjoy live studio performances and interviews, we need your support.
We will have three opportunities to meet our goals. The first will be this Sunday, May 10th, then on Sunday, May 17th, and then again on Sunday, May 24th.

Please call in your pledge of support between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. FRIDAY during the LIVING ART show. The number for pledge central is (713) 526-5738.

Important note … when you call in a pledge, it is credited to whatever show is on at the time it is received. The only exception is pledging on line,www.kpft.org, where you can designate your pledge to a particular show.
If you are currently a member and it is time to renew your membership or if your membership is about to expire, we would appreciate your calling in your pledge during LIVING ART.
If your membership is up-to-date and you would simply like to help us get a little closer to our goal, we would appreciate your support.
If you are financially unable to pledge at this time, we certainly understand and do not wish to cause any undue hardship to any of our friends and listeners, but if you are able to pledge, any and all amounts are appreciated.
Call your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers and encourage them to become a member of KPFT and help us keep the arts and our free community radio of 30 years alive.

Thank you for your support!
